What's my CEFR reading level?

CEFR runs from A1 (beginner) to C2 (near-native). Your reading level is the single most useful thing to know when you start — it's exactly the dial bleam uses to decide how much of a page to bring across. Take 30 seconds to estimate yours.

What the six levels mean

A1 and A2 are the early stages — basic phrases and short, simple texts. B1 and B2 are the working middle: B1 handles familiar topics, B2 handles real articles and books. C1 and C2 are advanced to near-native, reading demanding and idiomatic text with ease. Most self-directed learners spend the longest time moving through B1 and B2 — which is exactly where reading real pages, a little above your comfort, pays off most.
